Equipment Loan Program
About
The ALS Michigan Chapter has a loan closet that stores a wide variety of equipment. Please inquire about the loan closet items before purchasing new equipment or devices. We strive to help reduce the financial expenses associated with ALS.
Some of the equipment you may need is covered under Medicare or private insurance. It is our goal to loan you items that are not covered. It is recommended that you inquire first with your insurance before inquiring about our loan closet, especially in regards to power wheelchairs and speech generating devices since these devices can be tailored to fit your needs. These items often take weeks to receive and we do loan out these items if they are available. Some of the items do require a script from your medical team. When you no longer need the item, we ask that you contact the chapter so we can sanitize it and place it back in the loan closet for future patient needs.
Small items are housed at the chapter offices in Grand Rapids and Sterling Heights. The larger items are stored at a third party facility and will be delivered free of charge if you reside within their geographical service area. For smaller items, The ALS Association Michigan Chapter Care Service Coordinator can deliver the item to your home if you reside within 30 miles from a chapter office. In addition, we often ship smaller items via USPS.
The Care Service Coordinator will ask that you sign a loan agreement prior to delivering any item. Items are available on a first come first serve basis.

Donations
We are always accepting donations to our loan closet. For sanitary reasons, we are unable to accept respiratory assist devices, such as cough assists, bi-pap or c-pap machines, hospital beds, mattresses, hoyer lifts, ramps, seat cushions for wheelchairs and any bathroom type items, such as commodes and shower chairs. For tax purposes, all donors will receive a receipt acknowledging the donated equipment or items. The chapter greatly appreciates your donation! Please contact one of our care services coordinators if you would like more information or would like assistance with donating equipment.
